It catches the pulp in this strainer and you don't have to keep emptying the strainer because of these two fins the keep circling through it ensuring the juice flows though even as the pulp builds. It can handle a lot of citrus fast. My only complaint about it, is the part that juices the fruit fits onto a plastic hexagon rod. That plastic rod isn't very strong and doesn't look like it can hold up. Perhaps there was a little user error in that maybe the juicer part wasn't lined up on the rod correctly but the fact that the rod got damaged so easily is a little disconcerting. The whole item is built out of good materials, is weighty and seems high quality except for this critical part. I got it replaced and have not had any issues with the new one, but I'm a little paranoid. Still this may be the best citrus juicer available in how well and fast it works.It's all and all okay. But not worth the money by a long ways. For the price, one would expect (and I did) it would be capable of high production juice and last many years. But it does neither. It is just like any of the juicers out there in that it is designed for a low level of juice production and the more you use it, it gets stressed and falls apart. Mine lasted about 2 years before it started falling apart and now it finally quit after about 5 years. Well, I suppose one could consider that is the life expectancy of such a unit, but heck, I can buy one for 50 bucks and get the same performance. Skip it.I have had various electric juicers for more than 30 years, and this one is a real winner. For years now, each month I purchase boxes of fresh Indian River citrus just off the trees, which are shipped to me beginning in November of each year from Al's Family Farms in Fort Pierce, Florida. (Al's is a great company, by the way) I juice Ruby Red Grapefruit, Navel Oranges, Temple Oranges, Unique Oranges, and my favorite Valencia Oranges in the spring. That's a lot of juicing. This Breville juicer makes mincemeat of the job of getting juice out of this wonderful citrus. The juicer parts are super easy to take off and put back together, and are dishwasher safe. The machine has a lever that is pulled down onto a sliced piece of citrus, and even a person with severe arthritis could operate this easily. The machine gets EVERY drop of juice out of the citrus almost effortlessly. I was sold after using it one time. For decades, I had electric juicers that felt like you were doing a workout at the gym when juicing. This juicer is so easy to use. The Breville does not spill juice or splatter, and the juicing area stays clean. I am so glad I bought this juicer. It is pricey, but what a huge step up in quality!I would barely juice 1 cup of juice when it would shut off.It’s not a cheap citrus juicer, but if you need the best citrus juicer in the market, this is it. Since then, we buy big box of Oranges every week from Costco, so I can say our usage of this machine “Heavy”. After 1 year of use, this looks same as when we took out of box for the first time. We have thrown cheap plastic citrus juicers from Wal-Mart- I noticed plastic juicing dome was wearing out and where do that worn out plastic go. Obviously in our tummy. This is sixth Breville kitchen appliance in our home and like other Breville stuff, this die cast machine is built like tank. It looks very nice on counter-top and juicing is very easy and effective. You need to apply just little pressure while juicing and motor is very silent. Power-assisted arm not only make squeezing effortless, but keeps you hand clean as you don’t need to press fruit on the top of juicer dome. Built-in sensors activate juicing process once the press arm and fruit are in proper contact. I also notice that it is more effective and gives more juice compared to plastic juicers since you have no leftover juicable part remaining on orange halves. It goes right to the very end and takes out every bit of juice out of fruit. Top and bottom cups as well as pulp cup is removable and very easy to wash and clean. Though we mainly use it for oranges, it should be noted that it easily handles grapefruits and limes as well. When you need to stop juice to flow, you can simply lift the spout upwards, thus there is no more dripping while taking the glass away. You can control the pulp stainless steel filters. Edges of strainer parts are little sharp, but I have never hurt myself while cleaning. Though top cup eject button worked perfect so far, I think this should have been designed better as sometimes I have to try couple of times to put it back. It sits by plastic o-ring gaskets and It should be noted that it comes with extra o-ring type gaskets in case you need to replace it. FINAL THOUGHTS: I bought this Citrus Juicer after researching every product in market. I don’t think there is any better citrus press in market than this. It is expensive, but it is far far better than other juicers we have used before. You can buy packaged juices at lower price, but when you do it yourself, you know that you are getting is pure and fresh juice and not some watered down stale juice. Why make the whole machine in metal and add a cheap plastic cover on top. It's either lazy or stupid design. I’ve had some health issues the last few years and using a hand held citrus press is getting more difficult especially when you’re juicing multiple lemons and limes at once, so I figured it was time. I can’t really speak to the function yet as I just opened it and set it on the counter as it’s late at night, but I do have a couple things to say so far. 1. I thought there were two filter bowls for different levels of pulp: fine and regular. Looked like the demonstrator in all of Breville’s videos had a bit of trouble too. Maybe I just need to push harder. 3. It is a quiet machine. Never had an electric juicer before so I can’t compare, but it’s super quiet. 4. It appears to be pretty heavy duty and I’m pretty impressed with that. Although I’m generally always satisfied with Breville products that I have and there have only been a couple that could have used some more thought before final design. 5. A vertical, ribbed reamer—usually plastic, but in the case of some premium options, metal—fits onto a shaft attached to the motor in the base. When you apply pressure by pushing the cut end of the citrus down, the motor kicks in, turning the reamer. Many models also have an auto-reverse function: If you release pressure and reapply it, the reamer should rotate in the opposite direction. Press the citrus half until no more juice comes out, throw that half away, and repeat. Manual presses work in much the same way but leave out the reaming step. The press forces the fruit against a perforated cone, breaking up the pulp to release the juice. Some experts, including Joshua Goldman of Soigne Group, say that manual presses are less likely to eat into citrus pith, thus less likely to produce bitter-tasting juice. In testing, we did find that the resulting juice lacked bitterness. However, because coarse chunks of fruit end up in the juice, producing an unpleasant consistency, you need to take the additional step of straining the juice. Such presses also produce less juice since their components process the pulp less than a reamer does. With a manual press (in this case, the OrangeX), you press the lever down, forcing the fruit against a perforated cone. Electric models usually come with multiple sizes of juicing cones. This is an important feature, because the cones allow for optimal juicing of citrus fruits of different sizes. If a juicer has multiple cones, they’ll almost always stack on top of one another, with the small ones fitting into the large ones. If you’re a no-pulp kind of person, you may also want to look for a model with a pulp-selection feature. Some juicers empty right into built-in pitchers, while others have spouts that require you to provide your own container. The latter design isn’t terrible, but having something that collects your juice is an advantage. If you’re a no-pulp kind of person, you may also want to look for a model with a pulp-selection feature, usually an adjustable strainer below the reamer, which gives you control over how much orange guts makes it into your glass with the juice. Again, this feature isn’t a necessity, as you can always strain your juice through a fine-mesh sieve, but it makes juicing simpler if you don’t like chunks. The contenders. Because we didn’t have many comparative reviews (aside from that of Cook’s Illustrated) to work from, we leaned heavily on advice from our experts and looked closely at user reviews on Amazon and other retail outlets to choose models for testing. For our original 2013 guide and our 2014 update, we tested 10 electric juicers. Other models we brought in for this round included the Breville Citrus Press (a lower-priced version of the 800CPXL); Dash’s Go Dual Citrus Juicer and Stainless Steel Citrus Juicer; Juiceman’s JCJ150S and JCJ4000S; the KitchenAid Citrus Juicer Attachment, for those with a KitchenAid stand mixer; and two manual presses, the Ra Chand J500 and the OrangeX Jupiter. We subjected each juicer to the same battery of tests as we have in the past: After buying up a suspicious amount of citrus at the local grocery store, we weighed five navel oranges for each juicer; the average was 208.28 grams, with a high of 248 and a low of 182. Next, we juiced them, and weighed the resulting juice. Averaging these figures together, we came up with a mean juicing efficiency as a percentage. We repeated the process with three lemons, three limes, and a single grapefruit. We conducted these later tests mainly to see how well the individual juicers handled different sizes of citrus. Between each fruit test, we split the units apart for cleaning. This process gave us a good sense of how each model performs in average, real-life use. As a final test, we juiced oranges in the four top-performing juicers and conducted a blind taste test with a four-person panel, noting the flavor (including any bitterness) and the mouthfeel of the juice. Although the Proctor Silex consists primarily of plastic and looks pretty humble next to some of the other models we tried, its parts worked better than those of many of the other juicers. The motor never stuttered or stalled when in use, no matter how much pressure we placed on the cone. The Proctor Silex also operated more smoothly than the Dash Go Dual and both manual presses in our testing group. At its narrowest straining setting, the Proctor Silex produced juice with a small amount of pulp, while at the widest setting the juice had a thicker mouthfeel with nice chunks. The Dash Go Dual hardly strained the juice, as its pulp catcher discs fit together so loosely that most of the pulp slipped through even at the lowest setting. A pulp catcher consists of two perforated, donut-shaped discs. Toggling the switch determines how much or how little pulp ends up in the juice. While both Breville models’ lever mechanisms make them easier and more comfortable to use, the Proctor Silex doesn’t require an unreasonable amount of force. Using one or two hands, it’s easy enough to press down. A man and a woman of different arm strengths and hand sizes tested it, and both found it to be acceptable.
